Justice League Warner Bros. Wants Affleck for ‘Justice League’ written by Sean Gerber August 8, 2012 Variety reports Warner Bros. is prepared to offer Ben Affleck an opportunity to direct the “Justice League” film based on “Gangster Squad” writer Will Beall’s script. Discussions are said to be happening in the near future with one of the key points being whether or not Affleck will stick to his preference of starring in the films he directs (“The Town” and “Argo”). Warner Bros. could be eyeing a 2015 release date, though it may not be the best idea to go head-to-head with an already established team up franchise in “The Avengers 2.” Also, if 2015 is the release date, that all but guarantees the studio will not go the Marvel route with a series of solo efforts ahead of the team up. “Man of Steel” will be the only lead in, though Warner Bros. may again opt for a separate, concurrent continuity for “Justice League” like it tried to do back in 2007. We’ll have more on this story as it develops. Warner Bros. Going head to head with A2 is flat out suicide. Not to mention outside of Nolan’s Batman when was the last time WB managed to get these superhero films right. They really need to cut their teeth on a few projects, succeed and take that success to the golden goose of a JL film. 2016 is smarter. Get another superman film made for 2015 as well as a wonder woman film for xmas 2014. Those two directly move to a 2016 JL film. From the JL film launch GL, Flash and your Batman reboot. Gregory Walsh Gah… no edit button. Anyways I really hope…. Stuart Knight I’d rather just see Affleck be given the Batman reboot film in a few years than see a JL film. Dr.H Warner Bros really are that desperate eh? If Warner Bros has even an ounce of common sense just mimic the Marvel formula of solo efforts that lead into a team up film. Avengers box office success wasn’t just that it was a new thing it had solo films to build up anticipation. If anything they need to break their curse of mediocre superhero films and get directors with a VISION and PASSION for the characters. Fuck the Justice League film, the solo films are more important. Get them right. Charlie Not a bad choice, but I just don’t have a clue as to what WB’s plan is. So far it’s comming off as nothing more then a desperate attempt to cash in on the superhero team-up concept. Granted, they’ve been trying to get this thing off the ground for years, but the fact is Marvel beat them to the punch and WB is going to have a hell of time trying to make it seem like it’s not just a cheap knock-off. They’ve dug themselves quite a hole to say the least. steven If he also stars, I would say playing Hal Jordon would be a good match for him. rOn Was thinking the same thing, if he needs to star in the movie Hal Jordan would be best choice I think. Friend just text messaged me he could be Hawkman, Aquaman or Flash as well, but I don’t know about that. I always thought Ryan Reynolds would have made a good Flash, but not now of course. L.Hicks Actually, if he really wants to be in the film, I see Afleck more as playing Maxwell Lord orather than any of the heroes. Adrian Sure , at some point they need to get this off the ground rOn Was hoping they’d wait till after the Batman re-boot to do a JL movie. It’s Superman and Batman then into JL, then from there Flash and Wonder Woman movies, as well as a Lantern re-boot or lower budget sequel, but whatever it is GL has to be Hal Jordan. Other hero’s in JL Aquaman and Hawkman maybe (later green arrow and black canary) and if you really need an african american in the cast go with Cyborg I guess…please no Jon Stewart, Hal Jordan is Green Lantern that needs to be in first JL team. I have very little faith in Warner Brothers, they need to step back a bit and let DC actually handle stories and stuff like that and even have a large hand in casting choices, or at least have lots of input into it. Was hoping for Affleck to maybe be in line to direct the Batman re-boot. Now who? Need to be very careful, Batman is their cashcow and they can’t screw it up like they did handing it over to Shumacher. Batman Forever wasn’t great, but was sooo much better than Batman and Robin, being a huge Batman fan I thought that maybe Batman in movies would never recover…enter Chris Nolan and now wondering who will be entrusted with their biggest superhero franchise. A friend said why not Wally Pfister for Batman re-boot??? I guess we’ll have to see how good he ends up being as a director, lord knows he’s an amazing cinematographer. T.J. Notice how closely this story drops in relation to the news that Joss Whedon signs on to direct Avengers 2 and to oversee Marvel’s Phase 2 films? WB continues to simply react to Marvel Studios rather than build its own DC cinematic universe. That said, I like Ben Affleck getting involved as a director. Like many of you, though, I’d prefer that he direct the next Batman series instead. At the end of the day, though, I really don’t see a Justice League film succeeding. It has nothing to do with Affleck – I think he’s a great director. It has to do with the big decision-makers at WB. A Justice League film is not going to gather enough interest through “Man of Steel” alone. They need to at least give us a lead-in from each of the “Big 3” – Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. I don’t know if I’m alone on this point, but I will gladly forego a Justice League movie to see Wonder Woman get a great franchise, and for Superman and Batman to get their next great franchises. gautam govilkar i just pumped for the jla movie….. next big thing after tdkr…. Joseph Guest Evans (@GuestEvans) The Bruce Timm formula was good: Batman then Superman then Worlds Finest then Justice League. I think it’s a very logical progression considering the overwhelming popularity of DC’s top two characters, and they already have this rhythm underway even if it is unintentional. Speaking of which… Bruce Timm himself could be the mastermind DCU producer, if they are looking for such a person. Charlie I’ve thought Bruce Timm should be the architect of DC on film as well. WB needs to give him the keys to the car and then get the hell out the way. There have been way too many cooks in the kitchen over at WB. They need one guy who knows the characters and can find the right people to get involved.
