Superman ‘Man of Steel’ Leaps Box Office Records in a Single Bound! (UPDATED) written by Sean Gerber June 16, 2013 UPDATE: Variety has announced the final weekend box office numbers for “Man of Steel.” The film received an expected Father’s Day boost, increasing its weekend receipts to $116.7 million on top of the $12 million from Thursday for a domestic haul of $128.7 million. The final international numbers also saw an improvement over initial projections, ending up at $73.3 million. This puts the worldwide box office gross for “Man of Steel” at approximately $202 million. Exceeding previous box office projections, “Man of Steel” earned $113.1 million on its opening weekend, which is a record high for the month of June. Adding in the $12 million from Walmart’s “See Steel First” promotion on Thursday night, the domestic total climbs to an impressive $125 million. According to Deadline, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures also received another $71.6 million in international receipts to bring the four-day worldwide total to $196.7 million. This is undoubtedly beautiful music to the ears of Warner Bros. Pictures’ executives. The studio has been counting on “Man of Steel” not only to revive its Superman franchise, but also serve as a foundation upon which future DC Entertainment superhero franchises can be built. The final numbers will be released tomorrow and they could be higher than the current projection when considering a possible bump for Father’s Day. Regardless, the “A-” CinemaScore should give the film some legs, or maybe a cape in this case, for an impressive, enduring run at the box office. Looks like most of the world agrees; Superman is back. ‘Man of Steel’ Leaps Box Office Records in a Single Bound!
