Guardians of the Galaxy Meet The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY! written by Sean Gerber February 20, 2014 The folks at Marvel Studios continue to look like the smartest superhero movie makers and marketers in the room. After the successful launch of the first trailer on Tuesday night, Marvel kept GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY in the social media conversation all day Thursday. The studio took over Twitter and Facebook by releasing featurettes on each member of the team and the movie’s first one-sheet. GUARDIANS is about as obscure of a superhero property that’s ever been put on big budget film. Marvel’s introductory approach to the characters is a simple yet clever way to build audience awareness and get moviegoers used to the concept. Maintaining the high level of social media energy around GOTG for the past 48 hours has probably put the trailer and these featurettes in front of some mainstream eyes that were probably not yet pointed in the film’s direction. For those still not looking at GUARDIANS just yet, these videos will be there when they want to know more about what they saw in a trailer paired with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER or THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. Beyond that, the studio is showing unabashed pride in its cosmic expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Don’t be surprised if that contagious confidence once again spreads to general audiences. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY lands in theaters on August 1, 2014. Get ready with the videos and poster below. Truly. etourist Awesome to get a little bit more of Rocket so soon. Marvel seems to be putting everything behind GOTG to make sure people who’ve seen the other Marvel movies don’t skip this one just because it’s a bunch of characters they’ve never heard of. Matthew Dickinson I love the ‘you’re welcome’ to comic book fans 😀 The profiles are a smart way of saying ‘hey, look, we have Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, I love how taken Dave Batista is with Dax, very sweet! Michael Lalaian As my girlfriend once poignantly asserted, “the Avengers are kind of like the Spice Girls, everyone shows up for their favorite.” I think this will actually be even truer of Guardians, especially in terms of the marketing. I expect to see separate TV spots featuring Groot and Rocket during kids shows, lots of Drax-heavy action during wrestling shows, more of the comedic Star Lord moments during comedy shows… etc. The more I hear it, the more I feel like Hooked on a Feeling was the absolute best song to represent this film. At the end of the trailer when the titles come up and that song playing in the background I just can’t help myself from smiling. As corny as it sounds, that’s what this film does, it just really makes me smile every time I think about it. That’s the best compliment I can give to it. Triad I couldn’t have said it better myself! I mirror your sentiments exactly. I’m really looking forward to this movie where before all this I was just moderately curious…not to mention I’ve had “Hooked on a Feeling” stuck in my head for the last 3 days! Bob Marshall I have zero interest in this, Chris Pratt is clearly not a leading man. The trailer tried to be overly comical but the jokes were terrible. Sure it looks pretty but meh. I think I’ll skip this and look forward to Cap 2 which easily looks the best post Avengers Marvel movie. Iron Man 3 was too jokey and it turned out horrible. Gonna be waiting for this one to come on TV.
