Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Blu-Ray & Digital HD Details written by Sean Gerber October 3, 2014 The greatest rookie franchise in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is traveling across the cosmos and is set to arrive in your home. Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will be released on Digital HD on November 18 with a Blu-ray/DVD release following soon after on December 9. Both the digital and Blu-ray releases will have 3D versions as well. All home release formats will include an exclusive look at AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. To date, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY has grossed $320.1 million domestic and $645.2 million worldwide at the box office. Both figures rank as the best ever for a Marvel Studios franchise debut, besting 2008’s IRON MAN. The film doesn’t even open in China until next week, so expect that global sum to rise substantially. July 9, 2014 GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Trailer Launches! February 18, 2014 Michael Lalaian So this will be two Marvel blurays in a row that don’t have a one shot? It may sound petty to feel disappointed in not getting something *extra,* but those were one of my favorite aspects of picking up a new Marvel bluray each time they came out; not just reliving a film I loved, but also getting to experience another smaller slice of the MCU. I hope that they haven’t abandoned the concept of one shots altogether… Triad Also, another point of contention for me is the non-inclusion of DVD with the Blu-ray. I was always a fan of how Disney gave customers a little more “bang for their buck” by packaging both formats together. It used to work so well for those of us that would use the DVD as a loaner or with small children that want their own copy to watch in their room. Unfortunately, the trend is that they are pushing the 3D Blu-ray now, so that is their new multi-format package of choice. As an additional incentive for people to buy this combination, they have made it the only package that has a slip cover now, when they had one on all formats in the past. This is clearly a manipulation of the fans that like having their collections to look uniform on their shelves (of which, I am one). It’s a shame that they know that we will be buying their movies regardless and they clearly have no problems letting the quality drop if it isn’t the format they are promoting. Kind of a big “F-U” to their loyal fans, if you ask me. Oh well, at least the quality of their movies hasn’t dropped….yet? Michael Lalaian Oh man, that reminds me of another thing that they did to get under my skin. Going all the way back to Iron Man 1, every Marvel Cinematic Universe bluray came in a card stock slip covers. Then, starting with Thor: The Dark World and continuing with Captain America: The Winter solider, only the Bluray 3D versions have the slip covers. The regular blurays just have the usual plastic case. Now, first world problem, I know, but I like keeping all my MCU films neat in chronological order on my shelf and they all conform to the same slip cover look. But now, if I want to maintain that look, I need to buy the bluray 3D versions. I don’t even have a 3D TV! But I buy them anyway, and I’m assuming Guardians will be the same way… *le sigh* Triad Lol! My sentiments exactly. I did the same too and don’t have a 3D set up either.
