Star Wars STAR WARS Wraps; THE FORCE AWAKENS written by Sean Gerber November 7, 2014 As you must already know, Disney and LucasFilm celebrated the completion of principal photography for the next STAR WARS film by giving us an official title. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS will reignite the classic, cinematic saga on December 18, 2015. As usual, this is a STAR WARS subtitle that provides a notable hint at what kind of story we might expect. If you’ve been keeping up with the EPISODE VII rumor mill, then you can imagine how well THE FORCE AWAKENS matches up with what many believe will be the state of affairs when we first catch up with some of our heroes from the original trilogy. THE FORCE AWAKENS is a subtitle that deliberately refuses to take a side, suggesting that both the Jedi and Sith have been dormant since RETURN OF THE JEDI. Leaving film content out of it, this new title certainly feels appropriate for what will be the first live-action STAR WARS film in a decade and the first truly new cinematic chapter in the franchise since 1983. Not to be lost in the subtitle craze is the fact that all of the STAR WARS film we will see next year has been filmed. Aside from possible (but not definite) reshoots, it’s all there. Director J.J. Abrams has captured STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS through a camera lense (or several) and now he and the post production team will spend the next several months assembling the final theatrical cut to which we will be privy next December. Just let this latest milestone sink in. It’s a wonderful feeling. November 11, 2015 John Bierly “THE FORCE AWAKENS is a subtitle that deliberately refuses to take a side, suggesting that both the Jedi and Sith have been dormant since RETURN OF THE JEDI.” THIS! It’s not just a title. It’s a mission statement. It’s evocative, brimming with mystery and promise. So, yeah. It’ll do. 🙂 And the fact that we’re even talking about the new title of a new Star Wars movie is the best part of all of this. I expect official images soon! And a teaser not long after. etourist Maybe it’s just me but I find it to be a very weak title because it refuses to take a side. It’s the Sweden of titles. It probably doesn’t help that my Star Wars fandom lies strongly in the characters that aren’t Jedi or Sith… so a reference to the Force isn’t doing it for me. That said, the only title that would keep me from going to see it is “Star Wars: Jar Jar Binks Turned up to Eleven”. Ten I could handle but Eleven is one notch too far 😉 stock There is only one good subtitle in the Star Wars series: The Empire Strikes Back. Return of the Jedi was pretty good too, but the rest….ugh. As for The Force Awakens, it doesn’t bode well if you can’t come up with a better subtitle than that IMO. But as long as nobody needs to awaken me in the theater, like they had to for the last 3, then call it Star Wars Gets Another 15 Dollars, I’m there.
