Daredevil Jon Bernthal To Aerate DAREDEVIL Season 2 As The Punisher! written by Sean Gerber June 9, 2015 After a successful, highly-praised rookie season, Marvel Television has already set the proper course for DAREDEVIL season 2 by bringing in the one character who best challenges the titular hero’s moral and ethical lines. Not only that, Marvel has also secured the right man for the job, casting Jon Bernthal to play Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher. And here you thought Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) brought war to Hell’s Kitchen. Last season, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) struggled with the morality of his vigilantism, weighing the violence needed to stop violent men against the scars such action would leave on his immortal, devout Catholic soul. He never really found peace despite his will to act (and act). Frank Castle is going to increase the complexity of Matt’s situation tenfold. The vengeful Frank Castle, a man whose entire family was murdered, is only at war with criminals, not himself. He’s already made up his mind over which side he’s on and paves his own road to Hell with bodies and shell casings. As he demonstrated brilliantly in last year’s FURY, Bernthal can not only tap into the intensity needed for this role, but also the ability to inspire just enough sympathy even for a character whose moral grey areas fade to black. How will Daredevil respond to a fellow vigilante who is far less concerned with how the world or a deity will judge his actions? How can Matt Murdock make sure his Daredevil is different from Frank Castle’s Punisher? These are among the fascinating questions that have inspired tremendous Daredevil/Punisher interactions and confrontations in the comics. Seeing them examined in live-action is going to make for some particularly great binge-watching in 2016. If all goes well, or appropriately to Hell, perhaps we’ll be fortunate enough for Bernthal to star in his own Punisher series when Marvel’s Netflix deal reaches Phase 2. Mr.Sixes Well it’s shane and coon@$$ what do you expect. stock Haven’t seen this show, but great choice for the Punisher. Waiting patiently for DVDs. Michael Lalaian This is absolutely perfect, I can’t wait! Triad It’s one of those instances where I never really thought of him in the role before, but once it’s been mentioned, I can’t picture anyone else! Nice job Marvel and Netflix! Already watched all of DD season 1 twice already and a few episodes even more than that. Can’t wait for the Blu & season 2…and the other Defenders series! Now if only they would announce a Moon Knight series! (I’m still loudly bangin’ that drum!) Adrian Edmondson Will we finally get a good version of the Punisher ? I think we will Nayan Desai This is the best news i could have hoped for! Having the Punisher a part of Daredevil’s world is 100% spot on and the right call. Great to see that Marvel are giving Frank Castle the best platform in which he is able to shine. I feel television is the perfect medium for him and with the hard edge of the Daredevil show, there will be no watering down of the Punisher and his war on crime. Cant wait to see their 1st meeting on screen, it is, as Sean says, always a blast in the comics. One hope i have is that he is ex-military, not ex-police, it is where the foundation for the Thomas Jane movie got it wrong. The whole point is that the Punisher was born on the battlefield, it is a never ending war for Frank. Very pleased with Marvel, they have made this Punisher fan very happy!
