Television Weekly Ratings Roundup: October 18 to 24, 2015 written by Robert Reineke October 25, 2015 Major league baseball playoffs are still going on, but there was no competition from political theater this week, although the STAR WARS trailer may have made ripples elsewhere. Let’s take a look at the ratings. GOTHAM was done to a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 4.19 million viewers. A 1.3 is still safe on Fox, but it should be doing better. Did the STAR WARS trailer on Monday night football have an effect? Tough to say, but it obviously didn’t help. It certainly didn’t help MINORITY REPORT which is clearly the flop of the fall season. Things don’t get easier for GOTHAM as it’s up against the premiere of SUPERGIRL this week. Fox has promised another trailer for their X-FILES revival will play with it, but you have to think that it needs to simply weather the storm and demonstrate some bounce back ability. THE FLASH was steady as ever with a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 3.47 million viewers. Considering it was up against a highly watched NLCS game and the perennially popular IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN it’s a sign of the loyalty of the fandom. There’s a very good chance that it will be regularly the second rated show in its timeslot for the rest of the season, which is a huge win for the CW. And, hey, it’s nice to see Wentworth Miller in his regularly recurring role, chewing scenery with just the right amount of seriousness. Things are looking up for LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. apparently has some political junkies in its audience as it rebounded nicely to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 3.85 million viewers overall. Obviously, those aren’t great ratings for a show on one of the big three, but that’s above the current cancellation bar and portends well for the rest of the fall. I’m sure it will be down after it’s hiatus to let AGENT CARTER have its run, but as long as it’s reasonable in the spring renewal looks fairly certain. One of the major concerns is that ABC simply does not do well on Tuesday night. THE MUPPETS is sinking rapidly and with the World Series starting, ABC is looking at a week or two of fourth place finishes. AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has done well enough to reach syndication, but it’s never really lived up to it’s initial promise as something the network could build around. iZOMBIE took a hit this week falling to a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 1.29 million viewers. That’s a pretty sizable hit from its usual 0.7 rating. A preemption in Chicago explains part of the hit, but I’m sure CW would like to see more strength. Especially following THE FLASH. I don’t think iZOMBIE is in any particular trouble, but its days following THE FLASH may be numbered. I could easily see LEGENDS OF TOMORROW following THE FLASH and giving the CW a particularly formidable bloc with iZOMBIE trying its luck elsewhere on the schedule. Finally, ARROW performs within its usual range drawing a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 2.36 million viewers. Of all the superhero shows on television, it’s continually the one that’s most challenging to write anything substantial about. It’s been overshadowed by THE FLASH, but it still has a loyal contingent of viewers. Not bad for a superhero that’s never really been an A-lister. This week marks the point where superhero television gets messy as SUPERGIRL launches and will be going smack up against GOTHAM from here on out. How big will SUPERGIRL open? Can GOTHAM and SUPERGIRL co-exist with the latter bringing in a new audience? Nothing really notable has happened in the ratings so far this year, so I look forward to potentially having something interesting to write about.
