Justice League J.K. Simmons Joins JUSTICE LEAGUE As Commissioner Gordon written by Sean Gerber March 7, 2016 In one of the best pieces of casting news we’ve ever heard for the young DC Extended Universe, J.K. Simmons will play Gotham Police Commissioner James Gordon in Justice League, per The Hollywood Reporter. Simmons has been in high demand, especially after his Oscar-winning performance in 2014’s Whiplash, so this is a major “get” for DC Films. Expectations for the role of James Gordon were permanently elevated by Gary Oldman’s masterful work in The Dark Knight Trilogy, so it was important for Warner Bros. to find another rate talent to take over the role in its new shared superhero universe. They certainly found one in Simmons. It’s also a relief to know that the rumors of Gordon’s pre-Batman v Superman demise are not true. This will be the second legendary comic book role played by Simmons. He previously served as the highlight of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, playing the part of J. Jonah Jameson. Justice League: Part One beings production on April 11 with Zack Snyder directing for a November 17, 2017 release. J.K. February 22, 2016 Robert Reineke I was hoping that Marvel and Sony would “Judi Dench” him into the next Spider-Man film, but I’ll take this. stock Hey, I love the guy as an actor, but I can’t say I like him for the role. Not that he can’t do it justice, it’s just a strange fit for him, IMO. Besides, hairpieces on bald guys always look like hairpieces. Adrian Edmondson I’m all for this . CBM are getting the “best ” of the “best” when it comes to actors and the stories are becoming more diverse than simple origin story , beat up bad guy end credits rinse and repeat . Hopefully we get a fight scene like in TDKR where Gordon takes on Flass . That would be awesome . Matthew Malecki My immediate reaction: hell yes!! Not only are we getting Commissioner Gordon in the DCEU, but we are getting an amazing actor (I’ve liked J.K. Simmons for a long time). He’s incredibly versatile. I can’t wait to see Affleck’s Batman share a scene with Simmons’ Gordon…grizzled veteran partners. stock I’m ok with it. But if it were me, I’d go with Jon Voight. I wish Simmons luck and I’m sorry he isn’t making it into BvS, cuz I’d like to see how they’re going to make him Gordon now, not three years from now. GibLesPaul456 This is great casting. Of course…I was one of the many who was teased by Bryan Cranston’s performance in Argo but if we get J.K. Simmons as a consolation prize…then hell yes! Batverse role call: Batman/Bruce Wayne: Ben Affleck Alfred Pennyworth: Jeremy Irons Commissioner Jim Gordon: J.K. Simmons The Joker: Jared Leto Harley Quinn: Margot Robbie Deadshot: Will Smith Barbara Gordon/Oracle: Jena Malone (just assuming) This is a such a deep bench…I’m psyched for everything…and I really want to see a Batfleck solo flick!
