The Punisher Marvel’s THE PUNISHER To Get His Own Netflix Series written by Sean Gerber April 29, 2016 Netflix and Marvel Television have made it official: Frank Castle is coming back to the streaming service in his own series, The Punisher. Most of us figured this would happen once Jon Bernthal was cast as Frank Castle in Daredevil season 2 and his show-stealing performance made it a sure thing. Netflix has ordered a full first season, which has generally meant 13 episodes for Marvel series and some great talent has been brought in to run the show. Steve Lightfoot is the series’ executive producer and showrunner. He’s also written the first two episodes. With Hannibal in his past, Lightfoot is well suited for a series with the tone we would expect for The Punisher based on the source material and what we have already seen from this live-action iteration on Daredevil. In the official announcement, Lightfoot spoke about what drew him to this project: For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world. After watching Jon’s performance in Marvel’s Daredevil I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own. Bernthal deserves a lot of credit for earning this series’ existence. His powerful performance in Daredevil ranks among the very best in live-action comic book adaptations. While fans would have always been happy to see a Punisher series, Bernthal is the main reason the demand for a series with this iteration of Frank Castle was too strong to be denied. The Punisher marks the sixth series on which Marvel and Netflix will collaborate. It is the first series since the initial five of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage (premiering September 30), Iron Fist (currently filming), and The Defenders (teaming them all up) were announced a couple years ago. With the way things are going, The Punisher could merely be the first of a few more Marvel additions to Netflix in the not so distant future. The Punisher is back. Can’t wait to see him in the Defenders Nayan Desai This is the best news i could have hoped for! It is fully deserved. What is even more awesome is we can now go much deeper into the Punisher world and if the talent that has been tapped for this show are smart, they will hopefully be taking cues from the seminal Garth Ennis Punisher Max run to mine for story ideas, hell, that Max run could be the basis for the entire series. Also, does this mean we could be introducing the Italian mob into the Punisher world on screen? Hell, Punisher knocking off wiseguys would be this fans dream to see on screen! It would be honoring the Punisher history as well. The possibilities are endless and i cannot wait, well done Marvel! Michael Bradley Good news all the way! The Punisher was the the best part of Daredevil’s season 2. He has a complex backstory that could be explored or they could go for something completely different, Either way I’ll be watching!
