Captain Marvel Brie Larson Is The Top Choice For Captain Marvel! written by Sean Gerber June 1, 2016 Brie Larson is in talks to star in the title role of Captain Marvel for Marvel Studios. There is no word on how advanced these talks are or are not, but Larson is Marvel’s top pick. According to Variety, Larson is leaning toward taking the role. This would be one of the best pieces of casting for a studio that’s been better at casting superhero leads than anyone. Larson is a terrific actress who just took home an Oscar for her performance in Room last year. She could (should) have won another for 2013’s Short Term 12. Marvel films are known for their sense of levity, which is another mark in the plus column for Larson. She has extensive comedic chops, including turns in 21 Jump Street and Trainwreck. She also has a tangential connection to the directors of the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, Joe and Anthony Russo. Captain Marvel will of course appear in those films, which begin shooting later this year. That explains why the role needs to be cast even before a director is locked in for the solo film. The Russo Brothers directed several episodes of Community, a series on which Larson guest starred. The Russos did not direct any of Larson’s episodes, but they’re all in the same family. Larson is an ideal fit for Captain Marvel, known out of costume as Carol Danvers. She’s strong and fierce, but also an incredibly fun and witty character. Larson will be right at home out-quipping the likes of Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie.) I really hope this deal gets done, as Larson is an ideal choice for Danvers. It makes so much sense for all parties involved. Hopefully, we’ll get an official announcement at Comic-Con next month, if not earlier. Captain Marvel is being written by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy.) Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing for a March 8, 2019 release. The title character, however, could appear as early as Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 on May 4, 2018. Kerry Vanderberg It might just be me, but does anyone else think she looks almost completely different now than from 21 JUMP STREET? I hardly recognized her during the Oscars. Might just be me. I admit that I haven’t seen ROOM yet. This would be great casting if it came to fruition, so I’m on board. If this is back-door confirmation that Marvel will be at SDCC this year, that makes me double-excited!
