BatmanJustice League Ben Affleck Suggests His Batman Will Battle Deathstroke! written by Sean Gerber August 29, 2016 Ben Affleck, via his social media channels, may have just announced the presence of a popular rogue in the DC Extended Universe. The DCEU’s Batman shared the above video, which features Deathstroke in what appears to be test footage. This opens up a number of exciting possibilities. The footage appears to have been filmed off of a monitor on a film set, which you can see as the camera briefly pans away from the screen. Affleck is presumably on set for Justice League, which means Deathstroke could appear in DC’s big team-up movie next year. Then there’s the possibility that Affleck is using the completely built JL sets to add some production value to test footage for the solo Batman movie, which Affleck will direct. Plus, you know, it’s kind of convenient to run tests on the London JL set since that’s where Affleck is and will be for several more weeks. Meanwhile, The Wrap is saying that its sources have confirmed that Deathstroke is indeed the main villain of Affleck’s Bat-film. If that is the case, then it’s an awesome surprise. Previous rumors had Affleck’s movie drawing inspiration from Batman: Under the Red Hood, which would have been fine, but is also very been there, done that since the animated adaptation already covered (and improved upon) the comic book storyline. I love the idea of watching Batman fight a villain we’ve never seen him battle on film before. Beyond that, Deathstroke is a physical match for Batman in a way few cinematic villains have been. Only Ra’s al Ghul (Liam Neeson) in Batman Begins and Bane (Tom Hardy) in The Dark Knight Rises have given Batman a good fight on film and Deathstroke is arguably a better hand-to-hand combatant than each of them. Deathstroke, real name Slade Wilson, is an assassin for hire who’s line of work often places him on the opposing side of DC’s heroes. He’s not strictly a villain in the comics, as he’s even been characterized as a hardened antihero at times, but usually, he’s in conflict with characters like Batman and trying to kill them if need be. It is possible that Deathstroke will be hired to kill Batman in the solo movie. That would make sense, as there are always people looking to off The Bat. Maybe Batman’s relationship with Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) takes an ugly turn from where we saw it in Suicide Squad and she offers a contract to Deathstroke. There’s also a chance that Deathstroke has been hired to kill someone else in Gotham and Batman battles to save the person marked for death. There are even more possibilities I can think of, but it’s also worth remembering previous rumors that have had Batman encountering a number of his most famous foes in the next solo movie. Deathstroke could potentially be one of several villains showcased in a film that could be pulling from the Arkham video game series, of which Slade Wilson was part. Your guess is as good as mine, and I’d love to know what it is in the comments section. The main takeaway for me is that Deathstroke is going to be in the DCEU and that’s exciting enough for now!
