GothamTelevision Weekly Ratings Roundup: September 17 to 23, 2017 written by Robert Reineke September 24, 2017 Quietly, the new television season has returned. Given the changing television landscape, you really have to wonder if the traditional early Fall rollout means all that much anymore. Not when GAME OF THRONES dominates the ratings in the Summer and something like TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN garners reviews and thinkpieces that most network television shows would envy. But, things change slowly, even in this new era of on demand streaming. There’s only one comic book derived show back so far, so a quick look at the ratings. With that, we have the return of GOTHAM as it moves closer to being a young Batman story. The Penguin is running the underworld out of the Iceberg Lounge and the Scarecrow has returned, so it’s really not that far away from what you would expect out of a full on Batman television show. Ratings are unchanged since the season finale which is promising for GOTHAM making the shift to a new night. On the other hand, the 800 pound ratings gorilla that is THE BIG BANG THEORY is still in reruns. The NFL also has a full slate of Thursday night games scheduled, despite the fact that they’re usually sloppy affairs on short weeks of practice with inadequate recovery time. We’ll have to see if GOTHAM can survive the onslaught, but there’s enough of a differentiation between it and the shows it’s going head to head with that there might be a niche where it could survive. Especially as some of the other shows are a bit long in the tooth. We’ll see, although we can basically count on a full season to get GOTHAM to syndication numbers. It’s also worth noting, that GOTHAM seemed to be sympatico with THE ORVILLE which did a solid 1.1 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic on that night. That’s not a monster number, but shows have gotten renewed on a lot less these days and there’s apparently an audience for STAR TREK – LITE. We’ll discover if there’s an audience for a new STAR TREK brand name series shortly. So, that’s it for the first week of the new season. We’ll have two whole shows to discuss next week with the television premiere of MARVEL’S INHUMANS. A lot has been said about that show, but we’ll get to finally see if it sinks or swims on network television. So, if you have any thoughts on the upcoming season, now’s the time to share in the comments below. November 20, 2013 GOTHAM Gets Full Season Order From Fox October 14, 2014 Matthew Malecki I didn’t know this site was still active. Do you know what’s going on with it Robert? Has Sean moved on? Robert Reineke I know Sean is busy with work and Superhero News, but I expect he’ll still be covering Thor, JL, and Star Wars. In the meantime, the lights are still on here and I’ll still be doing the ratings roundup and maybe a few additional things as work and time allows. I’ll have a lot of Film Festival coverage over at wherethelongtailends.com starting this week along with my regular podcast there. Matthew Malecki This used to be one of my main sources for superhero news and discussion. It’s kind of sad that it seems to be mostly defunct.
