The Marvel and DC rivalry is as intense as one will find in the realm of pop culture fandom. It is a few Gaslamp Quarter bar fights during San Diego Comic Con away from matching the lunacy inspired by rivalries between sports teams. To combat the negative, mostly online behavior between the two factions of fandom, many have pointed out the need for everyone to get along and be happy that we live in an age so heavily dominated by formerly geeky interests that shared movies universes based on Marvel and DC are things that actually exist. Deadline says the studio has with Benedict Cumberbatch now being in final negotiations for the title role in director Scott Derrickson’s upcoming superhero film. Cumberbatch was first rumored for the role months ago, but cooled as the focus shifted to Joaquin Phoenix. It may be just the latest in a long list of box office accomplishments, but GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY hit a new milestone on Sunday for itself and Marvel Studios. At $752.6 million, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is now the highest grossing superhero film of the year worldwide after taking the domestic crown back in August. You can’t fight technology. Marvel found that out today when the trailer for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, which was originally scheduled to debut with next week’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., leaked online. Marvel wisely decided the best strategy was to simply join in on the fun by officially releasing the trailer six days ahead of schedule.
